About This Place

Nestled in the vibrant Delmar Loop of University City, Meshuggah Cafe is more than just your typical neighborhood coffee spot — it’s an immersive experience that masterfully blends an eclectic menu with a warm, laid-back atmosphere that feels both inviting and energizing. Whether you’re seeking the perfect breakfast to kickstart your day or a cozy nook to settle in with a book and a latte, Meshuggah delivers an authentic and memorable cafe experience that resonates with locals and visitors alike.

At the heart of Meshuggah’s charm is its thoughtfully crafted menu that showcases an impressive variety of dishes and drinks, each brimming with personality and flavor. Start with their celebrated Everything Bagel with Egg and Avocado or indulge in the flaky richness of their Smoked Salmon offerings that marry fresh, smoky notes with creamy avocado and tangy accompaniments. For those craving vibrant, wholesome flavors, the Falafel plate with greens and homemade yogurt dressing, or the in-house Quiche of the Day served with a fresh green salad, offer comforting yet adventurous options that surprise and satisfy.

The cafe’s sandwich and flatbread selections read like a love letter to artisanal ingredients and diverse culinary influences — from the rustic elegance of the Croquemonsieur with ham, fontina cheese, and whole grain mustard on bistro bread, to inventive flat breads named after literary and cultural icons, each an explosion of perfectly balanced flavors. Highlights include the Maya Angelou flatbread combining spicy sausage, onions, and peppers with melty mozzarella, and the intriguing T.S. Eliot featuring curried chicken, roasted peppers, feta, and garlic—each bite a celebration of bold seasoning and fresh produce.

Complementing these dishes are vibrant salads like the Greek with roasted peppers, olives, and feta or the hearty Turkey Club loaded with avocado, bacon, walnuts, cranberries, and a house-made buttermilk ranch. For those sweet-toothed patrons or anyone in need of an afternoon pick-me-up, the housemade Babka and wholesome smoothies, including the fan-favorite N Smoothie, beckon with their rich textures and naturally sweet profiles.

On the beverage front, Meshuggah dazzles with an impressive coffee and tea lineup—from the bold and invigorating strong black coffee praised by regulars, to unique treats like the Honey Matcha Latte, and the refreshingly spiced herbal ambrosia chai. Signature iced creations, including the delicate iced lavender oat milk latte, offer a soothing, floral note that perfectly complements the cafe’s vibrant energy.

Meshuggah’s interior mirrors its eclectic menu — walls adorned with local art, like the quirky and conversation-starting painting of a squirrel on a bicycle, invite guests to linger in an atmosphere that’s both inspiring and unpretentious. Ample seating, including cozy window nooks and comfortable upstairs couches, provide the perfect backdrop for anything from focused study sessions to relaxed catch-ups with friends. The considerate and attentive staff enhances the ambiance, ensuring a seamless experience whether you’re grabbing a quick coffee or savoring a leisurely brunch.

Real patrons of Meshuggah consistently highlight its unique charm: Jill Moore notes the quick service and respectful vibe even on busy weekend mornings, while Sara Govero celebrates it as the ideal “reboot spot” for a simple yet excellent breakfast. D K appreciates the café’s collegian spirit and diverse offerings, recommending it for its brunch delights and the welcoming bilingual staff. Meanwhile, deependablereviews brings to life the cozy ambiance and tasty sandwiches, and Jade Harrison captures the hidden gem quality of the space, praising not just the delicious drinks but the overall sensory environment — from the lush greenery adorning the windows to the fun, quirky decor and friendly team.

In sum, Meshuggah Cafe is a remarkable destination for anyone craving a harmonious blend of vibrant flavors, thoughtful service, and a genuinely relaxing environment. It’s a place where culinary creativity meets everyday comfort, making it a standout stop on Delmar Blvd and a beloved hub for the University City community.

This is an order at the counter and wait for your food place. We parked on the street about a block away. Our drinks were brought to us very quickly, but the food took a bit longer on a busy Saturday morning. We were able to find a seat upstairs on the couch. Everyone was very respectful of each others space and the volume wasn't overly loud. The smoothie and lemonade was fresh. The food came out exactly how we'd ordered it and was hot.

Meshuga Cafe is an eclectic and laid-back spot! Grab a coffee and enjoy the atmosphere. Located in the always-vibing Delmar Loop, this place serves exactly what you need to reboot from last night. We love a strong black coffee and breakfast tacos! Just eggs, cheese, and a tortilla. That’s it. So good! KISS - keeps it simple, stupid! And that’s what makes this spot amazing.

Vibey spot on the Delmar loop with good coffee and food. They have an expansive menu and one of the owners or managers speaks Spanish. I enjoyed the chocolate banana bread the best so far. The cafe has a collegian vibe with people often studying or working. It’s pretty busy even on weekends. They do online pickup orders. I recommend checking this place out especially for breakfast/brunch. The paintings on the walls are for sale.

Great place to catch a bite to eat and drink a coffee or tea and hang out. The sandwiches are really tasty and the herbal ambrosia chai drink was delicious. They have plenty of seating with more upstairs and a great vibe with art on wall. Love the painting with the squirrel riding a bicycle being run over by a car. I would buy it if it wasn’t $1800.

Cute and delicious! I sometimes forget about this hidden gem of a cafe but when I do go I always enjoy my time there. Today I’m enjoying their iced lavender oat milk latte. I love the plants in the window, the window seating, the eclectic decorations, and fun menu boards. They have a plethora of options, too! The staff was helpful and quick. Excited to take a book here and read in the window sometime :)

Looking for a hearty breakfast and well made coffee to set me up for full day on the Loop and surrounding area, and this place hit it on both. Had the Bruno on everything bagel with extra bacon and it was chock full…maybe even over generous on the eggs, but I was happy about that. Chilled atmosphere made even better by the eighties tunes they put on whilst I was there.

What a quirky coffee shop. Price seems a wee bit high. But the coffee was delicious and service was very friendly. Also their seating out front is great. It's also the only coffee shop I've ever seen a quad shop served in a sippy cup.
